Some aircraft that need to perform CAS missions may have a missile approach warning system, such as the A10, which is very useful. The trick is figuring out how to spot this non-warning missile, so actively throwing a couple of flares might help you survive when you're at a distance where you might be hit by an IR guided missile. When you are facing the missile sideways (flank), releasing the chaff will have a chance to divert the missile, because at this time it is difficult for the radar to distinguish which is the target between you and the chaff, and when you at the position of hot/cold, it is difficult for the chaff to deceive the missile.Īnd avoiding active radar missiles relies more on correct and appropriate maneuvers to consume the remaining energy of the missile, and chaff is just one of the means.įor IR guided missiles, you need to turn off the afterburner and throw a few more flares to throw them off. As far as I know, the working principle of radar in DCS is all tied to Doppler. So one has to think about what actually is delivered by them for free/included into the pricetag.First you have to understand how active radar missiles work, just watch a few videos and you'll understand. On the F/A-18E also there is a clear invitation for the community to mod it (it’s not locked, all switches are modeled in a way they have manipulators in place (so they show “inoperative” on mouse over), all screens are also in place but have a placeholder text). I’m really fine with the quality Asobo delivers for free, especially on scenery and the core sim (which actually enables devs like PMDG to deliver their high quality products!). IDK i have my fingers crossed that maybe 1/4 of the stuff i mentioned gets implemented when the top gun DLC goes live but who knows at this point.īut very expensive as your paying per aircraft plus per region on new mapsĪnd that exactly is the point - if you want study level stuff you have to pay for it and don’t even think that you will get something close to it for free I know flight simulator is not a sim like DCS with full fidelity aircraft but it does seem if so the standard has dropped. Im not sure if you guys have noticed this at all or if any people of the community really care since this is more of a civilian flight simulator but i am worried were the sim is headed because it seems like Microsoft is just focused on scenery and not as much for the aircraft.
